Kitimat Fishing Report

Posted Sunday Apr 17, 2011 by Kitimat Lodge

Has spring finally arrived, I wonder as we get pelted with snow while on the water. The groundhogs are playing games for sure this year. We are now into week 2 of our Steelhead season and the fellas from Japan managed to run straight into a nice run of male Steelhead on the spey rods. It was the first time for these fellas to target Steelhead and the fish ranged from 36-38 inches, so weighing in the high teens, very respectable sizes. River conditions are low at best and water temperatures are still in the high 30s to 40F. Afternoon seemed to be our best success as the odd pool had Steelhead rising to warmer afternoon sun beating on the water. The fellas tied a beautiful assortment of flies and I included a collage of the recipes they used.

Week 3 is upon us and our next groups arriving from the USA are in for a treat as fish numbers have increased in the local streams and warmer weather is predicted for the next while, I hope.
