Chrissy Nickerson is a regionalist with deep ties to the plein air tradition, following in the path of the masters before her. She works solely from her own plein air sketches, returning to the studio to build larger paintings rooted in firsthand experience. Her time at Island Lake Lodge is especially dear –– a place that allows her to mute the outside world and fully observe the landscape, where as she says, "the trees' details are theirs, their individuality, their strength." This exhibition reflects that quiet attention and a deep longing to return to the stillness of those alpine moments.
