Born in Holland, Ria has been actively engaged in the fibre arts since coming to Canada.

She has always been interested in nature, its materials and its beauty.

These interests led to basketry, weaving, "painting" with fabrics and fibre sculptures.

"Waiting"

Inspired by the disastrous method of removing our old growth forests.


Materials: Silks, synthetics fabbrics, silk yarns and satins.

Method: Strips of fabric kept in place with netting (ie. painting with fabrics)

Size: 34" x 24"
 



"Aht Dzoli"
(people of the cockle)

Inspired by Canadian West Coast culture.

Materials: Beachbark, wood , metal, silks and beads.

Method:Wrapping, stitching, painting.

Size: 20" and 15" high.

This is a close up from a larger peice.

Materials: Silks, synthetic fabrics, silk yarns and satins.

Method: Strips of fabric kept in place with netting.
