British Columbia Travel Guide
The unofficial BC Travel & Tourism Guide
Nowhere is the Slow Food movement a more natural fit than in the health conscious communities of Canada’s west coast.

The Slow Food movement, established in Italy in 1986 as a counterpoint to Fast Food, is now spread over 132 countries with 100,000 official members. Millions of people now question the way we get our food and want to promote locally grown and sustainable food production. They are interested in fresh and healthy options. The movement not only promotes local farmers, local flavors and local artisans; it becomes a way of life. Billed as ‘good, clean and fair’, the Slow Food movement stands in philosophical and practical opposition to agribusiness. The movement continues to gain traction throughout the world, resisting the notion that big, fast and foreign is the best way to feeding the planet.

In BC you will find the Slow Food philosophy thriving in numerous communities. From the burger in your bun to the wine in your glass, Slow Food is everywhere, even in the BC Schools.
Join a Slow Food cycle tour in the Fraser Valley or a farming clinic that includes animal husbandry.

For a locally inspired meal from Vancouver Island, try the
“Hand made red fife wheat cavatelli with nettles and Moonstuck white grace cheese or a boneless Cowichan Bay farm chicken leg with bacon and Jerusalem artichokes.”

In every case, the local choice is the best choice.
