The Victoria Edelweiss Club was founded in 1970 to preserve the cultural practices of the German speaking immigrants of the Victoria area, and to help integrate them to the Canadian way of life. ( It was hoped that Canadians would come as guests to social events. They did. )

The founding members wanted their own hall from the very outset, and found a suitable property and building at 108 Niagara Street. The building was a former rollerskating rink, and volunteer labour soon transformed it into a dance hall and kitchen. The exterior was given a Bavarian-style facade.

The Schuhplattler dancing group practises Monday evenings and performs at Octoberfest, Folkfest

The Ladies Group
Our small and happy group is very much involved with special activities to support the club. Some functions are: To plan and bake for a Christmas Bazar, to put on luncheons during the year, picnics, wine and cheese partie, coffee and cake afternoons. We enjoy each others company and meet many times during the year.

The choir has been fortunate in its musical director, Dr. Angelika Arend. The choir`s piano accompanist is Cristalle Watson a very talented musician . Membership in the choir has reached 50. A small executive, chaired by Mrs.Ursula Willmann, attends to business.
