Sheila Norgate is an accomplished and respected Canadian contemporary visual artist whose dynamic and expressive paintings can be found in several leading Canadian galleries and in private collections world wide.
Although her style is abstracted, her images are always grounded in either an interior or exterior landscape-like environment. They are not representative of truly abstract space. Norgate's surfaces tend to be built-up and richly textured and she almost always incorporates text either by stamping letters onto the canvas, or scratching/writing through the paint. Colour is vitally important to Norgate as evidenced by her use of a vivid and saturated palette.
