A touch of whimsical clayworks
Dorothee's love affair with clay, brilliant color and form shows in her work. Each of her pieces is an original constructed by hand. In her Victoria studio, she pounds and flattens the clay, then cuts, shapes and assembles the various components into clocks, teapots, candle holders and sculptures. Many of her pieces are characterized by whimsical wit and charm.
Dorothee Schaekel was born in Germany. In 1996 she immigrated to Canada where she found new inspiration in the brilliant colors and dramatic shapes of the Canadian landscape.
