Chantal is a little girl from the orphanage in Pembaa, Africa, where my sister-in-law goes on mission every year. Her large eyes, brimming with emotion, tugged at my heart and I was driven to paint her.

Annie is my step daughter. She was fifteen in this picture, and I loved the way the light was coming through the window, illuminating the side of her face, and her gorgeous red hair.

This is a portrait of my gorgeous sister and brother, in their early twenties, looking out the window of a heritage house in the valley where I live. It brought to mind the symbolism of bringing the new from the old, and the journey into the future that every young person must face.
