Saratoga Beach
Highlights:
While some might enjoy flying a kite in the gentle afternoon breezes, or skim board in the shallows, others can explore the beach for sand dollars, starfish, clams, crabs and other marine life waiting for the returning tide. Seals pop their heads through the still waters, offering curious looks, eagles soar overhead, and blue herons stand like statues before plunging their long beaks into the shallows and return with wriggling fish. Miracle Beach Provincial Park offers camping and picnicking in fragrant Douglas fir and arbutus forests and is situated along the best of this shoreline.
A visit to the marsh of Woodhus Slough or the mouth of the Oyster River, which empties onto Saratoga Beach, is sure to provide even better wildlife viewing. The beach offers wonderful views across Georgia Strait to Quadra Island and the Coast Range on the BC mainland.
There is a 9 hole golf course and mini-golf, and lots of choice of accommodations. The Saratoga Speedway has been offering motor sport enthusiasts entertainment for 30 years. The baby “D” track is modelled after Daytona and there is also drag racing every second week. Outdoor concerts, with excellent acoustics, have also become a favourite part of this venue. For visitors coming in the off season, New Years Day has a well attended Polar Bear swim, when scantily clad revellers plunge into the icy water, for fun.
