For most of my life, I have painted and sculpted. In the late ‘60s, I attended the Ontario Art College and had the opportunity to apprentice with seasoned Toronto artists. During the past twenty-five years, I have expanded my creative scope to designing and building gardens and contemplative spaces. My paintings hang in private and corporate collections, and I have exhibited in public and commercial galleries.
The landscape has always engaged me. My artistic challenge is to translate scale and scope, as well as conveying the landscape’s spiritual impact. Since moving to the west coast of British Columbia in the mid-’90s, my work has been inspired by coastal landscapes. This focus has been influenced strongly by annual trips into the wilderness, kayaking and camping, where I collect impressions and images. Being eye-level with the water is a perspective that appears frequently in my work. As well, life-long travel through different countries and continents has shaped my awareness of landscapes and of living.
